WTH happened to y'all.
Today's English from everyone is horrible!

Anyway, I don't doubt that people don't know about XBLA.

I suspect that these guys and the PS3 owners who don't know their console has blu-ray are just the normal gigantic selection of 'tards who just buy Madden every year. It's easy to forget just how many of them there are.

This is the same study that said that only 30% of Xbox 360 owners realize their console can produce HD graphics.

I think it's about time to start treating this study like what it is: garbage.

"Those consumers" are the people who are buying them as status symbols of wealth. You can spot them so easily whenever you're in Best Buy, Circuit City, etc... They're usually there in a pack of six or seven people (why do you have to bring your massive family everywhere you go?) who probably had to do a lot of money-pooling.

I agree. A lot of people buy stuff just because that's what "everyone" is doing. Sometimes people would say to me "I wish I had a BMW". I would ask "Why a BMW and not a Mercedes or Infiniti?" Response: either "It's a BMW" or *blank stare*

Some guy came up to me, knowing I liked games, and asked if I saw how real some game looked on PS3. I said, yeah but it looks the same on 360, to which the response was just another "it looked SO REAL"

people buy wii/ps3/360 b/c they played it once at a friend's house and liked it, they go max out their credit cards and use it maybe 1 time per 3 months. They don't read the box or instructions. These are what stores like Best Buy make 90% of the profit off of. Hell, it's this kinda consumer MOST retail stores probably profit off of.

xboxen just need better labeling. MS should do like HDTV and DVD player manufacturers. Put a plastic sticky on the front of the console with pretty icons for HDTV, XBLA, XBLA, HDDVD, Internet, Gold Account, 5.1 DD sound, DTS ...

Then the parent unpacking and setting up the console for little Jimmy will have "heard" of it.

I am not saying that I would like this sticker. I, personally, would hate it. But it would prevent embarrassing results like this.

I find this statistic flawed. Their data collection methods are suspect or people are having fun with the survey. I find it very hard to believe 30% of Xbox 360 owners has never heard of Xbox Live Arcade.

If you've logged on, you've certainly seen the option. Unless you log on and never use the interface, which I find hard to believe. It's not like it's well hidden.

Something is wrong with the survey or there's another issue here, such as those who responded have never been online.

Meh, this is the norm for a lot of consumer electronics.

The majority of people (aka the general public) will buy something for some basic functionality.. eg. playing games from disc, listening to music on an iPod Video, buying a $2000 Apple computer to surf the web, using PhotoShop to auto-adjust their images, etc, etc...

These people are buying the xbox to buy games they've bought on disc.. adn they're perfectly happy, they're not going to be hacking it to stream music and videos over their network.

I've got to agree with the phat man here.

I think 30% is a pretty good number. That means 70% of people know and their connected to XBLA via the internet. I would think 98% of hardcore gamers know. I bet this is your 70%. The other 30% are your casual gamers, who probably don't even have 360 connected to the internet.

30% is in now way accurate. I would say the number is around 5% or less. Tkae my hosue for example. I own an xbox 360, and I dont ever answer the home phone (I have my cell phone). What if My mom was called up and polled for this survey? She certainly knows I own an xbox 360, but has no idea about XBLA unlike me, the owner who does.

I can bet anything that many of the % polled was mearly the head of the houshold who knew of some1 else in the hosue owning a 360. I bet if we polled 145 xbox 360 OWNERS, there would be alot less people who have never heard of XBLA.

I don't know why people are surprised. These folks are not HARDCORE like the readers of Joystiq. These are just folks who buy the console, play a bunch of games on it and shut it off. They don't live on it, like some of us do. They don't delve into all the nooks and crannies like we do.

Their loss.

Well....what if the person answering the phone was the parent of a kid with an xbox 360. I am sure that if the parent answered these questions, they may have no idea what XBLA is.

I mean they talked to 149 xbox owners. I would think that anyone who has ever used the interface would have seen that arcade button, been a little curious and then actually hit A.

I call crappy reporting/stat gathering.

Hey genius, you ever think that maybe a company hired to call people and ask them to do a survey might not; A. Hired a gamer to monitor and inform the people calling, or (gasp) B. Didn't hire gamers to actually call the people.

They didn't hire college (or maybe not even high school) graduates to do this.

You sir, continue to live in your perfect world where everyone is as at least as smart as you.

100% of Wii owners touched boobs this week.

66% of PS3 owners have licked a dude's balls. That's right. Balls.

66% of PS3 owners are gay couples.

30% of Wii owners boned a really hot chick last night.

Duh.

OMG.

Best showcase of hardcore gamers.

When you buy a new car, do you study every page of thick manual which comes with it? Or you just jump in and drive?? Many (most!) people do latter.

Same thing with XBLA. Some people bought Xbox for some games - and turn it on only to play the games. They already got all the value from Xbox/games they wanted.

Why such a simple thing is *that* complicated for joystiq readership to understand?????

If 360 had both NWN1 (with all expansion packs) and Doom3 - I would have also bought it and never even looked around what else Xbox has to offer. Because the two games are taking 90% of my gaming. And I do not need more than that.
