Rogue Pictures, a sub-sub-division of Universal specializing in low-budget action and horror flicks, has signed on to distribute Paul W.S. Anderson's
Castlevania adaptation. Rogue will handle distribution in North American, the U.K., Spain and German-speaking territories. Crystal Sky, co-financers of the (not-so-low-budget) $50 million project, will be responsible for distribution throughout the rest of the world.
Anderson is currently scouting out shooting locales in Hungary and Romania for his
Blade-meets-
Highlander epic. Dracula's castle will be re-imagined in some back lot in Budapest. Shooting starts this spring. Drink your holy water and keep your crosses crossed.
[Thanks, Dave]

Don't hold your breath for a blockbuster here.
I'm sure it'll suck.
moofree @ Nov 2nd 2006 9:31PM
I hope this movie doesn't suck.
But with Paul W. S. Anderson at the wheel...
I hope it's not as bad as Deathrace 3000 will be.

Great. I fully expect bullet-time whip action or dagger tossing.
Man, this is gonna blow. Why can't we get a real writer/director?!?
westrella @ Nov 3rd 2006 12:52AM
Well, Anderson did kill alien vs. Predator, hes surely going to kill this one and Damn, it is one of my fav videogame series. =/

It could always be worse - you know who could be the director. He's so terrible I dare not speak his name.
But yeah, overall this will probably suck. As westrella pointed out, Anderson took a brilliant basic premise in AvP and completely ruined it. I imagine he will do the same with Castlevania.
Honestly, Hollywood... if you're not going to do video game movie right, JUST DON'T DO THEM.

Any sack of garbage would happily butcher any videogame universe as long as they're getting paid.
Having said that, I really do hope this schmuck doesn't horribly twist Castlevania.

Waitatic - I thought the Castlevania film was going to be direct-to-DVD animation. Or are they doing a live one too?
And Paul Anderson is a hack. His track record has borne this out. Why he still gets work is beyond me.

"Waitatic - I thought the Castlevania film was going to be direct-to-DVD animation. Or are they doing a live one too?"
Yes. The sad thing being that the direct-to-dvd cartoon scripted by Warren Ellis will be superior to this $50 million-budget Hollywood trash.
Jellodyne @ Nov 3rd 2006 9:38AM
This is going to be the best Dracula movie since Van Helsing! ;p

"This is going to be the best Dracula movie since Van Helsing! ;p"
Then let's hope they remember to keep the "trip-over-rock-and-do-super-high-CGI-backflip" charm intact.

Paul W.S. Sucka$$. This guy is a tool. How could anyone rape and murder two classic sci-fi franchises at once? Alien v. Predator....
Ramza24 @ Nov 3rd 2006 1:19PM
Yeah, support the animated one instead of this. Warren Ellis is penning it and sounds like they sort of know what they're doing.
